What Is Lot Size in Forex?

Lot size is the number of units of the base currency in a forex trade.

  • Standard lot: 100,000 units (about $10 per pip on EUR/USD)
  • Mini lot: 10,000 units (about $1 per pip)
  • Micro lot: 1,000 units (about $0.10 per pip)

Why lot size matters

Lot size, together with your stop distance, decides how much money a trade risks. A 30-pip stop on 1 standard lot of EUR/USD risks about $300; on 0.1 lots it risks about $30.

Pick the right size with the position size calculator and check margin with the margin calculator. Related: pip, position sizing. See the trading glossary.
