How Clarity Tracking Calculates Your Trading Metrics
Your journal is only useful if you trust its numbers. This page explains the standard definitions behind the core metrics in a trading journal, so you can understand and check every figure on your dashboard. If you ever see a number that does not match these definitions, contact support@claritytracking.com.
Trades and results
- Net P&L is calculated after commissions, fees and swaps reported by your platform.
- Winning trade: net P&L above zero. Losing trade: net P&L below zero. Break-even trades are counted separately.
- For futures, partial fills are grouped into complete trades before metrics are calculated.
Core formulas
- Win rate = winning trades ÷ (winning + losing trades)
- Profit factor = gross profit ÷ gross loss
- Expectancy = (win rate × average win) − (loss rate × average loss)
- R-multiple = (exit − entry) ÷ (entry − initial stop), for trades with a stop loss
- Average R = the mean of R-multiples for trades with a recorded stop
Drawdown
- Drawdown = (peak balance − current balance) ÷ peak balance
- Maximum drawdown = the largest peak-to-trough decline over the selected period
- Prop firm limits are shown against the rules you enter for each account (static, daily or trailing), because firms calculate them differently.
Sessions and time
Session breakdowns use standard market hours: Asia, London and New York, with the London and New York overlap shown separately. Times are converted from your platform's server time.
Sample size
Statistics from small samples can be misleading. As a rule of thumb, treat results from fewer than 30 trades as preliminary and wait for around 100 before making major changes.
