Look up tick size and tick value for popular futures contracts and see the dollar value of any price move.
A tick is the smallest price movement a futures contract can make. Each contract has a fixed tick size and tick value set by the exchange:
Dollar value = Ticks moved × Tick value × Contracts
The E-mini S&P 500 (ES) moves in 0.25-point ticks worth $12.50, so one full point is worth $50. A 10-point move on two ES contracts is 40 ticks × $12.50 × 2 = $1,000.
Micro contracts are one tenth the size of their E-mini counterparts. MES ticks are worth $1.25 and MNQ ticks $0.50, which makes micros useful for small accounts and for scaling in and out.
Your stop distance in ticks multiplied by tick value is your risk per contract. A 20-tick stop on NQ risks 20 × $5 = $100 per contract. Use the position size calculator to turn that into a contract count.
